Sheku Collier was yesterday sentenced to fourteen (14) years imprisonment by Justice Ivan Sesay of the Freetown High Court, because he was found guilty of penetrating a ten (10) year old child.
The convict was before the court on one count of sexual penetration of a child, which is contrary to section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012.
The indictment indicated that the convict, on 2nd August 2019 at Freetown, sexually penetrated a child.
Justice Ivan Sesay said that he was satisfied the prosecution have proved their case beyond all reasonable doubt, which made the accused to be found guilty as charged.
The convict pleaded to the judge, informing that he has suffered a lot in prison. He also pleaded for mercy.
Cecelia Tucker also pleaded with the judge to temper justice with mercy on the accused. She also pleaded with the judge not to impose a custodian sentence on the convict, citing as he is a father to a four year old child.
State prosecutor, Jessie Tucker, stated that the maximum sentence for such an offence is fifteen (15) years imprisonment.
Justice Ivan Sesay sentenced the accused to fourteen years imprisonment, which should run curorrently.
