The National Authorising Office (NAO), in collaboration with the National Youth Commission (NAYCOM) will launch a new road construction project in the eastern region of Sierra Leone.
It is hoped that the road project would provide up to one 1,500 jobs for youths across the country, especially residents of the eastern region.
The huge number of jobs will come courtesy of the road construction project for the Bandajuma- Liberia Road Project.
According to the NAYCOM Commissioner, Ngolo Thomas Katta, out of the 1,540 jobs in the road project, 1,290 would be for community people nationwide. “The other 250 jobs will be provided for graduates with specific focus on all aspects of road construction skills,” Katta assured.
The discussions for the commencement of the recruitment, according to the youth commissioner, were at an advanced stage adding that they would “soon” screen qualified workers. NAYCOM and NAO, Katta went on, had held series of discussions to roll out the plans for youth skills training program as part of the commission plans for 2020-2023.
The youth commissioner entreated potential and qualified youths to take Advantage of the venture as they were doing more to help curb the high number of youth unemployment in the country.
The Head of NAO, Ambrose James commended NAYCOM for trying to make sure youths across the country explore their full potentials on the road construction project.
The NAO head is quite hopeful that with suck skills, the country would be less dependent on expatriates to do Sierra Leonean jobs.
Ambrose James further noted that plans were underway for the full launching of the project this year. The project, he concluded, would be sponsored by the European Union.
It is hoped that the project would cement the infrastructure deficits in the country, and boost the business and social lines between the two Mano River nations.
