Sierra Leone’s biggest bike race, the Fundsmith Tour de Lunsar kicked off on 24th April, 2025 to end on 26th April 2025, and it is showcasing the best of West Africa’s cyclists as the racers take on the three-day event around the small mining town.

The Fundsmith Tour de Lunsar stands out as more than just a cycling competition; it embodies a vibrant celebration of sport, community, and national pride.

This annual event has become a significant fixture in the lives of participants and cycling enthusiasts alike, forging connections that extend well beyond the racecourse.

According to Abdul Karim Kamara aka Stylish, the Tour de Lunsar was established with the aim to create a platform that allows Sierra Leonean cyclists to compete locally while engaging with international talent—a dream born from the recognition that many local cyclists were seeking opportunities abroad rather than competing at home.

Over the years, this household cycling tour has successfully attracted over six international teams, transforming Lunsar into a vibrant hub for cycling. Kamara also emphasizes the value of hosting the race. “The Tour de Lunsar is important because it creates the platform and opportunities for young cyclists in Sierra Leone,” Kamara explains. “It is important because it gives Sierra Leone a good name internationally, especially for tourism. The Tour de Lunsar creates job empowerment, business opportunities for locals and a positive feeling in the community.”

Stylish highlighted the profound impact the Tour de Lunsar has on both the local community and the broader Sierra Leonean economy. International cyclists, upon arriving, contribute significantly through airport taxes, accommodation, and the purchase of local goods. Their exploration of Sierra Leone’s rich tourist attractions ensures that the financial benefits of the event have a wide-reaching positive effect on the country’s economy.

Meanwhile, the CEO Stylish has presented the Fundsmith Tour de Lunsar’s T-shirt to President Prince Sualley and officially invites the National Olympic Committee/ Commonwealth Games Association of Sierra Leone.
