25 Year-old Docked For Wounding

Must read

By Janet A Sesay
Joseph Allieu, 25, yesterday made his first appearance before Justice Simeon Allieu during the Criminal Session for allegedly wounding Isaac Sesay with intent and caused him grievous bodily harm.
The accused was standing trial on one count of wounding with intent, which is contrary to Section 18 of the Offence against the Persons Act of 1816.
The particulars of offence indicate that the accused, on 16th January 2020 in Freetown, wounded Isaac Sesay with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence and defence counsel, Sonia Browne, from the Sierra Leone Legal Aid Board (LAB) made an application for bail on behalf of the accused.
State prosecutor, Yusuf Sesay, vehemently objected to bail on the grounds that the magnitude of the offence, as the medical report states, was grave as the complainant received seventy-one (71) stitches on his body due to the wounding.
The accused was refused bail by the Judge and the matter was adjourned to 3rd June, 2020. The matter will be assigned to a sitting Judge as determined by the Chief Justice.
