40 Year Old Woman In Court For Wounding

The accused, Kumba Mansaray, yesterday made her third appearance before Magistrate Marke Ngegba of Court No.1 for allegedly wounding Bernice Lefever. She hit her with a stick on her right hand, which left it swollen.

Led in evidence by the prosecutor, Sergeant 10980 Hannah Newstead, the witness, Inspector Suleiman Kamara, attached at the Criminal Investigation Department, Adelaide Street Police Station, recognized the accused in the dock and recalled the 29th June 2020.

He said, on that day, he was on duty when the complainant made a report against the accused. “I issued the complainant a police medical request form for examination and treatment at the Connaught Hospital, which she later returned endorsed by a doctor,” he informed the court.

The witness said on that day he obtained statements from the complaint and witnesses.

“On 1st July 2020, I obtained a voluntary caution statement from the accused, by observing the judge’s rule. The voluntary caution statement was tendered in court to form part of the evidence,” he told the court.

He said, on 20th July 2020, he charged the accused with the offences of causing grevious bodily harm, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The defense lawyer, representing the accused, was not present in court, which made the cross examination to be deferred for the next adjourned date. The accused is on bail, and the matter comes up again on the 15th December 2020.
