Ibrahim Suma, a motor apprentice was on Monday, 7th October 2024, remanded in prison by Magistrate Bangura of Pademba Road Court No. 2 for allegedly stealing from the Queen Elizabeth 11 Quay Eight Hundred and Ten (810) bags of cement totaling One Hundred and Twenty five Thousand, Five Hundred and Fifty Leones (NLe 125,550/00).
It was accused’s his first appearance and was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit a crime contrary to law and larceny by servant contrary to Section 17(1a) of the Larceny Act 1916.
The particulars of offence states that the accused, on Sunday, 1st September, 2024 at Queen Elizabeth II Quay in Freetown conspired together with other persons unknown to commit a crime to wit larceny by servant, and count two states that the accused on the same date and place being servant employed by Zak Building Materials did steal the said quantity of bags of cement (810) valued at One Hundred and Twenty five thousand, Five Hundred and Fifty Leones (NLe 125,550.00) property of Zak Building Materials. When the charges were read and explained to the accused plea was taken
The Prosecutor, ASP Dahlia Wellington informed the court that her witnesses were absent and therefore she could not proceed in the circumstance and requested for an adjournment in order to subpoena the witnesses.
She also presented to the court an affidavit in opposition to bail as the Defense Counsel, Samuel Wilson applied for bail on behalf of the accused.
Magistrate Bangura refused the accused bail due to the serious nature of the offences charged and the quantum of alleged stolen bags of cement involved. The accused was sent to the male correctional facility whiles the matter was adjourned to 14th October, 2024.
