NPPA Staff Remanded for Grievous Bodily Harm

Amara Salia a staff of the National Protected Area Authority (NPAA) at his first appearance before Magistrate Mary Julian Gbloh of Pademba Road Court No. 5 was remanded in custody on Wednesday, 2nd July, 2025 due the seriousness of his offense of causing grievous bodily harm on his complainant Abubakarr Turay.

The accused is charged with four count charges of conspiracy contrary to law, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to Section 47 of the Offences against the Person Act 1816.

The charge sheet indicates that Salia on Friday, 28th March, 2025 at Lumley in Freetown, conspired with other persons unknown to commit a crime to wit, causing grievous bodily harm.

The charge sheet furthered that Salia on the same date and place caused grievous bodily harm on Abubakarr Turay, and he together other persons unknown also maliciously wounded and assaulted the complainant in a manner occasioning on him actual bodily harm.

When the charges were read and explained to the accused person, no plea was taken. The Prosecutor, Sergeant 5598 Santigie Koroma sought for a short adjournment indicating that the other prosecution witnesses were not in court.

Magistrate Gbloh refused bail on the basis of the seriousness of the matter and ordered that the accused person be remanded at the male correctional facility in Freetown, until the next adjourned date of 8th July, 2025.
