Reports monitored from Port Loko district detail that a youth in Makoloh lost his life while trying to put on his generator.
The deceased, Saidu Bangura, was struggling with his generator in trying to charge phones in their provision shop last Thursday afternoon. The generator exploded leading to his untimely death at the Rokupa Satellite Hospital, where he was admitted with two other fire victims, two of whom also died due to electrical problems people are faced with in the country.
Bangura was buried yesterday leaving Ya Aminata, his mother, in complete pain. Saidu Bangura was her only son who could have looked after her in her old age.
Described as a cool gentleman, Bangura is missed by a lot of fans including the okada riders in the area.
Riders say the government is to blame for not doing all it can to provide its citizens with basic necessities such as electricity. They said since the election campaigns were over, politicians have not been going to the village or working on the action points enshrined in their campaign promises.
According to Abu Kamara, a farmer in nearby Songo village in Koya Chiefdom, Makoloh and Songo villages are not recognized by the ruling SLPP. He said the SLPP is punishing them for their support of the APC party during the previous elections. He cited the poor road network, lack of light and pure pipe-borne water as eyesores in the Chiefdom. He added that the SLPP is not ready to amend this problem just yet.
Makoloh and Songo link to the Mabang Bridge, which further links Port Loko and Moyamba District in the south. Notwithstanding, these villages have touristic sties, which could be used to boost tourism in the country.
“The SLPP should concentrate on the Makoloh-Songo road if they are serious about development,” Pa Keblay Koroma, a resident of Songo village, said.
