HEAL Sierra Leone, a civil society organization monitoring the March 7th Polls, has called on NEC to deal with all opposition concerns before the final announcement of results. The organization praised the conduct of the polls which, according to them, was peaceful, free and fair.
HEAL Sierra Leone press release has called on NEC to pay keen and prompt attention to the restriction posed on party agents by NEC to be able to move freely and monitor the process at the NEC tally center. This, according to the release, will make them unable to verify the results that are being processed.
The release also called on NEC to pay attention to the complaints made by Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP) presidential candidate, about the 2,235 uncollected voter ID cards in Constituency 070 purportedly distributed to APC supporters.
NEC, according to the release, is also encouraged to listen and deal carefully with the issues of over voting complaints by the SLPP, APC and the NGC in Tonkolili, Bombali and Bo.
HEAL Sierra Leone concluded by calling on NEC to immediately relieve one Sheikh Hamed Kamara, a senior IT worker at the NEC tally center at Wellington, who is accused of interfering with figures at the center.
Responding to the press release from HEAL Sierra Leone, authorities at NEC disclosed to journalists that their system at NEC has several layers and it is not possible for one individual to insert figures like HEAL Sierra Leone is thinking.
He stated that there was a memorandum of understanding between NCRA and NEC for exchange of staff which was why Sheikh Hamid was sent to work at NCRA.
NEC used the occasion to inform journalists that they are recounting votes in several districts as a result of complaints of over voting received from political parties.
