Abu Bakar Sillah, co-founder of the Barrie Help and Ivorian Sillas Foundation – ‘Say No To Drugs’ and ‘Say No To Violence’ campaign, has donated ten standard match footballs to Wusum Stars FC, reaffirming his long-standing commitment to youth development and empowerment through sports.

Popularly known as Ivorian Sillas, the renowned philanthropist was a distinguished guest at the Wusum Field in Makeni on Sunday, January 4, 2026, during the encounter between Wusum Stars FC and Kamboi Eagles FC. The hosts secured a narrow 1-0 victory in a match that went beyond competition, delivering a strong message of hope, responsibility, and positive youth engagement.

Sillah said he honored the invitation extended to him by Abdul Keister, noting his deep personal and family ties to Makeni.

“Abdul Keister is a brother to me. My wife is from Makeni, and my mother also has connections here, so you can see how closely I am linked to this city. I am proud to support Wusum Stars FC with footballs, and I will also be providing training outfits for the team,” he stated.

A former Freetown United player, Sillah has remained consistent in his mission to change the mindset of young people, particularly those affected by drug abuse and other social vices. He believes that football and sports, when properly supported, can serve as powerful tools for discipline, purpose, and positive transformation.

As co-founder of the Say No To Drugs campaign, Sillah emphasized that engaging young people in meaningful sporting activities not only helps in discovering and nurturing talent but also keeps them away from drugs, crime, and hopelessness, while instilling core values such as teamwork, respect, and perseverance. His intervention at the Wusum Field forms part of a broader vision to use sports as a platform for social change and national development.

The donation was warmly received by the club’s management, technical staff, players, and supporters, who described the gesture as timely and impactful.

The leadership of Wusum Stars FC expressed profound gratitude to Sillah, noting that his support will significantly boost players’ morale and enhance preparations for upcoming competitions. Fans and community members also applauded his commitment, describing him as a true role model and a strong pillar of support for youth-centered initiatives.
