TWO MEN REMANDED OVER MURDER AND ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES IN KENEMA

Two men have been remanded at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre (SLCC), Kenema, in connection with separate cases of murder and attempted murder.

The defendants, Abu Kamando, a farmer of Madina village in Wandor Chiefdom and Mohamed Sheriff, a herbalist of Nongowa Chiefdom all in the Kenema Judicial District, were on 8th January, 2026 remanded by Magistrate Hadiru Daboh of Magistrate Court No.1.

Abu Kamando stands charged with murder contrary to Section 1 of the Offences against the Person Act of 1861, as repealed and replaced by Section 1 of the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act No. 6 of 2022.

Mohamed Sheriff was charged with attempted murder, wounding with intent, and causing grievous bodily harm with intent, all contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861.

According to the prosecution, Abu Kamando allegedly murdered Bundu Kamando on Saturday, 28 June 2025, in a Kamando village Bush in Wandor Chiefdom in the Kenema Judicial District, Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. No plea was taken and the matter was adjourned to 20th January 2026.

In a separate matter, Mohamed Sheriff allegedly attempted to murder Michel Paul Nicole on Wednesday, 24th December 2025, at No. 17 Sheikh Abubakarr Street, Lumbebu Axis in Kenema City. The Prosecution alleged that the accused inflicted severe injuries on the victim’s hands and legs, cut off his left thumb with a machete, and sprayed a liquid suspected to be acid into the victim’s eyes.

No plea was taken, and Mohamed Sheriff was also remanded at the SLCC, Kenema. The matter was adjourned to 16th January, 2026 for preliminary investigation.

Both matters are being prosecuted by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sulaiman Kamara Esq., attached to the Legal and Justice Support Department, Kenema Police Division.
