The recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel by President Donald Trumph rang a melodious bell in the ears of Christians who believed that Jerusalem should again be the capital of Israel before the world ends. Some religions have been established world-wide and others have been geographically contained. Judaism belongs to the latter. The roots of the Jewish religion go back some 4,000 years in history and other major religions are indebted to its scripture a greater or lesser degree. Christianity founded after Jesus a first century Jew has its roots in the Hebrew Scriptures. And as any reading of the Quran will show Islam also owes much to those scriptures. Thus when we examine the Jewish religion we also examine the roots of hundreds of other religions and sects.
A second vital reason is that the Jewish religion provides the essential link in mankind’s search for the true God. According to the Hebrew Scripture, Abram, the forefather of the Jews, was already worshipping the true God nearly 4,000 years ago.
Simply put, Judaism is the religion of a people. Therefore a convert becomes part of the Jewish people as well as the Jewish religion. It is a monotheistic religion in the strictest sense and holds that God intervenes in human history especially in relation to the Jews.
In the book of Esther 3: 1-6 it is written, “After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha and advanced him and set his seat above all the princes who were with him and all the king’s servants who were at the king’s gate bowed down and did obeisance to Haman; for the king had so commended concerning him. But Mordecai did not bow down or do obeisance. Then the king’s servants who were at the king’s gate said to Mordecai, “Why do you transgress the king’s command?” And when they spoke to him day after day and he would not listen to them they told Haman in order to see whether Modecai’s word would avail; for he had told them that he was a Jew. And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow down or do obeisance to him Haman was filled with fury. But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone. So they made known to him the people of Mordecai Haman sought to destroy all the Jews, the people of Mordecai, throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasureus.” Haman’s efforts were in vain. We know that the Jews were dispersed and that during the Second World War Hitler incinerated six million Jews hoping to eliminate them in vain.
In 1948 the modern state of Israel was established. In 1967 during a six day war Israel with a minor population of less than ten million defeated the whole of the Arab world and occupied the Golan Heights that Donald Trump the maverick United States President recognised recently as United States territory.
The Jews are a stiff-necked people. They have made laws according to their own fashion and they keep them.
Donald Trump who came to power against overwhelming odds not having dabbled in national governance before was a mighty shock to many people but is seen in some Christians Churches as a fulfilment of biblical prophecy. The return of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is one such. The name Trump needs only ET for the last trumpet to blow for the end of the world. Keep watching and waiting!
