Bonthe District has emerged victorious in the maiden National Canoe Championship organised by the Sierra Leone Canoe Federation at Lumley Beach.
The historic competition, which attracted participation from eight coastal and riverine communities, marked a significant step in the promotion and development of water sports in Sierra Leone.

Bonthe delivered an impressive performance to secure first place, finishing ahead of Mama Beach in second position, while Black Johnson settled for third place in a closely contested event.
Speaking to the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation, Federation President Abdul Karim Koroma Junior described the championship as a strategic initiative aimed at discovering and nurturing local talent.

He noted that the federation is committed to identifying promising athletes who can be developed through structured training programmes for national and international competitions
