Dear Sir

RE: REQUEST FOR REVIEW AND REDUCTION OF FUEL PUMP PRICES FOLLOWING FALL IN INTERNATIONAL CRUDE OIL PRICES

I write on behalf of the Sierra Leone Labour Congress, representing over 3,000,000 workers (formal and informal) to respectfully request that the National Petroleum Regulatory Authority review and adjust the current retail fuel pump prices in Sierra Leone to reflect the recent and sustained decline in international crude oil prices.

Over the past weeks or months, global crude oil benchmarks, including Brent crude, have declined per barrel from their earlier levels. This reduction has resulted in lower landed costs for refined petroleum products for many importing countries. As a result, consumers, transport operators, businesses, and public services in Sierra Leone are not yet experiencing reduction of prices at the pumps.

We request your consideration of the following actions:

1. A timely review of the current fuel pricing formula, given that fuel price formula is often reviewed upward when prices in crude oil increase.
2. A reduction in retail pump prices for petrol, diesel, and kerosene proportional to the fall in landed costs, implemented immediatedly.
3. A commitment to periodic (for example, monthly) reviews of fuel prices when international oil prices change.
4. Removal or reduction of some taxes and other charges on petroleum products.

Sir, kindly note that reducing pump prices will deliver immediate relief to households facing high living costs, lower operating costs for transport commuters and businesses which help stimulate economic growth.

Whilst workers await your immediate action as requested, we remain optimistic that government will act in the interest of its people.
By copy of this letter, the Director of the National Petroleum Regulatory Authority is accordingly informed.

Yours sincerely,
For: Sierra Leone Labour Congress

Max K. Conteh
Secretary General
