Anonymous source within the leadership of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has disclosed that Members of Parliament of both the All People’s Congress APC and ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) are expected to begin deliberations this week on the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee and the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Bill, 2025, both being tabled before the House of Parliament.
According to the source, the APC parliamentary leadership has been holding internal consultations ahead of the anticipated debate, with lawmakers expected to carefully and thoroughly scrutinize the proposed constitutional reforms and the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee.
The source further revealed that discussions will focus on provisions that could have significant implications for Sierra Leone’s democratic governance, electoral processes, and constitutional order.
The disclosure follows what the source described as recent engagements within Parliament regarding the legislative agenda for the upcoming sitting.
Although the APC leadership has not officially commented on its position on the two matters, political observers believe the debates are likely to attract considerable public interest, given the far reaching implications of the proposed Constitutional amendments bill 2025 and that of the Tripartite Committee’s recommendations.
The Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Bill, 2025, together with the Tripartite Committee recommendations, is expected to generate robust debate among Members of Parliament from both the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the opposition APC.
As of press time, Parliament had not publicly announced a specific date for the commencement of the said debates. However, legislative proceedings are expected to begin once the matters are formally tabled before the House.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more official information becomes available.
