Opposition Leader Bemoans Deteriorating Electricity Problem

Must read

The acting Leader of the main opposition All People’s Congress Party in Parliament, veteran politician and journalist, Ibrahim Ben Kargbo, has blasted the deteriorating situation of electricity in the country.

He said that the electricity situation is becoming unbearable for residents of Freetown and other major towns in the country. Mr. Kargbo called on Government to speedily work towards restoring reliable electricity in most major towns. According to him, this is a situation the APC had met.

The veteran politician noted that energy is a flagship project of the current Government and everything should be done to bring sanity into the sector, which is very key to the development of small businesses and enterprises in the country.

Ibrahim Ben Kargbo also took time to throw light on the massive destruction of the forest cover in Falaba and other areas in the country. He bemoaned the fact that the perennial water problem in the country is attributed to the declining depletion of the forest cover in various areas in the country. This, for him, is unacceptable and would no longer be tolerated in Sierra Leone.

President Bio, he emphasized, has noted very clearly that the provision of water is very key for his Government, but the opposition majority leader said this statement has not resonated well with the commitment to protecting the environment.

Hon. Ibrahim Kargbo also took considerable time to appeal for national peace and cohesion in the country, citing his days in school when he used to joke with friends from other tribes and regions. “This is no longer happening in the country,” he stated.

The veteran politician also criticized the over taxation of the private sector by the current government. The Deputy leader noted that this posture will scare away private investors and subsequently undermines the growth of the economy.

The statement Basita Michael made at the Bintumani Conference, on behalf of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, has continued to make headlines. Many well meaning Sierra Leoneans have continued to applaud the speech as a conscious step to realizing peace and national cohesion. Some have taken it out of context and have attached political sentiments to it.
