It looks as though the paopa government of President Julius Maada Bio is virtually worshipping former President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma who has refused to be an elder statesman. He has been accorded great admiration and respect and it appears that the government would soon reach the end of its tether. His mode of being an elder statesman is to boycott all state activities instead of being an honored state consultant on intractable issues.
Most of us do worship the Almighty God and others gods. The activity is not for nothing. It is meant to gain something or influence that we cannot gain through our own efforts. The state authorities who are now apparently worshipping Dr. Ernest Koroma are doing so because they feel that he could have a beneficent influence over the recalcitrant APC of which he is head. His predecessor, Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, bowed out from the public scene with good grace and there was no need to cajole him because his hands were off all local governance. Not so for his successor who has only been featured in calling for military presence in his own country that could intervene in his party’s favour.
Dr. Ernest Koroma has even been advised by local diplomats to get his hands off local politics but the man is obdurate. He wouldn’t budge. This is the attitude he evinced when he did not attend the Peace Conference. He always has one flimsy excuse or the other. With regard to the launching of the Dr. Tejan Kabbah Foundation he gave the puerile reason that he was not provided bodyguards as if the state would not have provided some if he had asked for it. Not even the visit to his Makeni bastion would get him to change his attitude.
He cannot distance himself from the ugly events that recently occurred at the APC headquarters after the verdicts on the election petitions. There is a well known factor known as remote control. Though he was not physically present he cannot absolve himself from what transpired though he cannot be legally held responsible.
The fact is that he had made the treasonable statement of making Sierra Leone ungovernable in 2007 if he was not elected President. Now that he has not been elected he is carrying out that threat clandestinely with the government carbon copying the Tejan Kabbah reaction to threats to the peace. When it is considered that the former commander of his bodyguards escaped or was allowed to escape with all those millions of ammunition still missing there is cause for great concern. Something is brewing. We may wake up one morning to the sound of guns, January 6th style. The ungovernable state would have begun.
Romans 1:24-25 states: “Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator who is blessed forever.” Amen.
Why should President Bio keep worshipping Dr. Ernest Koroma at the peril of the state? If there is a secret pact between them it should be subservient to the state. Sierra Leone first before any secret agreement! The man has lost honour from those he deprived of power. He can lose nothing more if there is eternal vigilance; the prize we have to pay for our freedom.
