The Minister of Information and Communications, Mohamed Rado Swaray on Wednesday 4th July 2019, disclosed to students at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone that the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) government under their regime will not tolerate “sexually transmitted grades in schools and universities across the country”
Minister Swaray was speaking when delivering his keynote address on the popularization of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) organized by the National Council for Civic Education and Development (NaCCED), in collaboration with Statistics Sierra Leone at the Mary Kingsley Auditorium, FBC campus in Freetown.
According to the Information and Communications Minister, Fourah Bay College used to be the citadel of learning and the athens of West Africa where most of the students from foreign nations had gone through, but today students have exposed the university to ridicule and violence.
He frowned at students that continue to engage in camps to unleash mayhem, revealing that the behavior of students in universities have resulted to the poor performance in public offices where most graduates poorly performed when given duties.
He warned all students to comport themselves as students at a great university that Africa referred to as citadel of learning.
Mr. Mohamed Swaray noted that sex for grades will never be tolerated in their own time, informing also that the new direction under the astute leadership of President Julius Maada Bio is not in place to accommodate generations of illiterate graduates in Sierra Leone.
He admonished students to be hardworking, devoid from examination malpractice which may not be of help to their academic pursuit.
He advised them to research well rather than chasing lecturers for grade.
The Information Minister informed that government is striving very hard to ensure equal access to job opportunities, citing “students should imagine things, never imagine if you want to become a successor in life,” he told students.
The SLPP government, according to the Minister, will restore the lost glory of Fourah Bay College and all the universities across the country.
He highlighted his Ministry’s achievement in recent times especially the establishment of Regional Resource Centers that will help students and NGOs do their research.
