Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 2, has remanded one Sheriff Kargbo at the Male Correctional Centre for allegedly committing larceny in person, contrary to section 14 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The prosecution witness and victim, Hawanatu Kamara, told the court that she recognized the accused and that she recalled the 15th July 2019.
She furthered that on the day in question at around 05:56 p.m, herself and her brother were walking along Sani Abach Street going towards PZ Axis in Freetown, when the accused approached them and violently snatched her black bag that contained the following items: four DVD plates valued at thirty thousand Leones (Le 30,000), a ladies` wrist watch and other valuable items valued at eight hundred and thirteen thousand Leones (Le 813,000).
The witness continued that after the accused snatched the bag and ran away going towards Malama Thomas Street and, according to her, ‘’they started shouting tif tif’’.
She further stated that upon shouting, some guys who were around came to their rescue and were able to chase the accused who dropped the bag and went away.
The witness further stated that they saw the black bag on the ground adding that when the said bag was discovered all the others items were inside the bag, except the phones and the Samsumg Galaxy note that were missing.
According to the witness, they later apprehended the accused and took him to the Eastern Police Station where she was asked to make a statement.
The accused was before the court on one count charge of larceny in person contrary to section 14 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The police file sheet indicated that Sheriff Kargbo on the 15th July 2019 at Sani Abach Street in Freetown, snatched one black bag containing one Samsung Galaxy note, three mobile phones , and other valuable items valued at eight hundred thousand and thirteen Leones ( Le 813,000) from Hawanatu Kamara.
The accused was not legally represented and the matter was adjourned to 1st August, 2019.
