Government May Drop the Bumbuna Phase two Project

Must read

The Government of Sierra Leone is likely to drop the Bumbuna phase two project in the north of Sierra Leone.
Deputy Minister of Energy, Eldred Tunde Taylor, has told journalists in Freetown that government has serious challenges with continuing discussions around commencing the Bumbuna phase two project largely due to the project development cost of the project which many believe to be around US$ 500 million dollars and also the fate of Bumbuna phase one because of the design of the project (Bumbuna phase two).
Dr.Taylor noted that as a government it is continuing with negotiations on the project even though they are of the opinion that the project will put the government on a potential risk.
He added that they have made comparisons with projects of a similar nature in the region especially the Republic of Guinea and that the cost for Bumbuna phase two is very much higher.
The Deputy Minister of Energy also used the occasion to brief the media on plans by the Ministry to generate, distribute and supply sustainable electricity in the country.
He recounted that the aging distribution and transmission systems is hugely constraining government to provide electricity to homes and offices across the city and other major towns.
