Former President, Ernest Koroma has told party members that “peace is critical to development.”
The former President and chairman and leader of the main opposition, All People’s Congress, made these remarks, over the weekend, at the Bai Bureh Hall in the Northern town Port Loko. The party was expected to hold a National Delegates at the Bai Bureh Hallto adopt the party’s 1995 constitution.
“As former president, there are certain things I will do and certain others I will not do,” Koroma said.
‘’I know that the only way development can come to this country is when there is peace,’’ he emphasized.
He assured the membership that his party strongly believes in peace adding that is what they have been working towards.
The membership of the party, according to him, was in Port Loko because they believe in peace and development.
He called on the Almighty God to continue to strengthen his faith.
The former President used the occasion to thank constituency, district and regional chairmen and the national executive for their “giant strides” in getting the party where it is.
He recounted that the membership of the party has worked hard in sustaining the party which, he noted, had gone through difficult and challenging moments.
Koroma thanked the membership for their resilience.
The main opposition party had converged at the northern town of Port Loko to get delegates to endorse the party’s draft constitution over the weekend but a high court ruling later on Friday had ordered the party to put the meeting on hold.
The National Reformation Movement a pressure group within the party had prayed to the court to stop the convention against the basis that the draft constitution which was to be endorsed at the conference has not been popularized through the part structures.
