In Tonkolili… 50 Rice Farms Destroyed

Over fifty (50) rice farms including huge piles of unprocessed farm rice and other crops worth millions of Leones have been reportedly destroyed by various fire incidents disasters at Massagble Village,Mamuntha Mayossoh Chiefdom, Tonkolili District.
The incidents according to reports occurred during the afternoon hours of Sunday 19th January, 2020 at a nearby bush outside the village before spreading over to the rest of the rice farms taking its toll on a huge portion of already harvested and unharvested rice
Samuel Alusine Kamara, Youth Leader Masagble Village told this medium that almost every farmer in the village is affected by the fire incident.
What he described as an unfortunate incident has hugely affected thousands of homes and the Masagble Community.
This problem is further worsened by the challenges also presented by a huge cattle rearing presence in this farming community.
The affected farmers are appealing to the Government of President Bio and other charitable organizations to provide them with assistance especially with start-up seeds and other livelihood support programs.
Kamara further stated that the burning of their farms is a mere set back to their community and called on the authorities to hastily look into the issue with a view to investigate the cause of the fires.
