The Head of Criminal Investigations Department, Sierra Leone Police John Alpha and his top Management team has been engaged by the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone over the continuous detention of two US State Deportees, Saren Idaho and Prince Arman Latayo.
The two were deported by the United States Government to Sierra Leone in August, 2018 after they were caught with Sierra Leonean Passports.
The deportees have denied the allegations that they were caught with Sierra Leonean passports and have indicated that they were handed down travel certificates upon their arrival in the country.
The Human Rights Commissioner, Nansu Ndanema told officials of the Police Criminal Investigations Department that the issue of statelessness is a human right one and that the Police should move towards doing something for the two US deportees rather keeping them continuously under their custody.
There are allegations that the Police have been engaged in extorting the two US deportees by facilitating the transfer of various sums of monies from their relatives with the pretext to help them secure their release.
The Human Rights Commission was concerned that the Sierra Leone has not used the diplomatic circles to ensure that the two US Deportees are either released or sent back to their home countries.
