NAYCOM Hands Over Three Youth Centres

By Tony Yayo

The National Youth Commission has handed over three newly renovated youth centres to three district councils in the eastern and northern districts of Koinadugu, Kono and Kailahun.
The renovation of the centres, funded by GIZ, is meant for the youths of the three districts.
Ngolo Katta is the head of National Youth Commission.
He said the centers should be used as ‘learning and resource centers’ by young people.
He urged district councils, chiefs, the Anti-Corruption Commission and signatories to the Memorandum of Understanding to ensure that they ‘provide oversight on the use of the centers.’
He said the Commission would tap resources to equip the centers to meet the purpose for which they were created.
In all three districts, the stakeholders assured NAYCOM of their unflinching support to the young people to manage the centers effectively.
Meanwhile in Kono, the Commissioner visited the Women’s Development Center, a skills training center that hosts about 194 young women.
These women are trained tailoring, catering, and interior decorations among others.
One of the graduates, now an employee of the center, said she decided to be trained in tailoring because she did not want to live on begging.
“With the skills I have gained, I can earn my own money and that in itself brings me a special satisfaction,” said Aminata.
The commission prioritises technical and vocational education and training as a key component in developing the middle level manpower.
In that direction, NAYCOM will embark on the training of 1,540 youths in road construction skills along the Bandajuma- Liberia road project with support from EU through the National Authorizing Office.
