Led in evidence by Detective Sergeant 11223 Baindu Bonna, the police witness, Sergeant 11640, attached at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Adonkia Police Station, recognised the accused and recalled 19th January, 2020.
He said, on that day, he was on duty at the said Station when a case of wounding with intent was reported by the complainant, Dankay Mansaray against the accused.
“In my presence the complainant was issued a police medical request form for treatment at the Lumley Government Hospital,” she told the court. “She later returned with the endorsed medical form to the station and the matter was allocated to me for investigation,” he continued.
The witness furthered that he then obtained statements from the complainant and her witnesses.
“On the same day, the accused was arrested and brought to the Station. And I obtained voluntary caution statements from him by observing the Judge’s rule,” he informed the court.
“The voluntary caution statement was tendered in court to form part of the evidence,” he again told the court.
He said, on the 22nd January, 2020, he charged the accused with the offence of wounding with intent, wounding and assault, occasioning actual bodily harm.
“The charge statements were also tendered in court as exhibit C1-C2,” the witness concluded.
The accused is arraigned on three counts of wounding with intent, wounding and assault, occasioning actual bodily harm, which are all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
The charge sheet indicates that the accused, on 19th January 2020, at Portor, Gbendembu, Goderich in Freetown, wounded Dankay Mansaray with intent to do her grievous bodily harm.
The charge sheet furthered that the accused maliciously wounded and assaulted the complainant in a manner occasioning her actual bodily harm.
The accused was unrepresented and so he had to cross examine the witness himself. No bail application was made on his behalf as he was denied bail by the Magistrate.
The matter was adjourned to the 28th April 2020.
