The former Sierra Leone Deputy Ambassador to the United States of America, Hon. Alimamy Coulson Turay, has declared his intention to vie for the position of Chairman and Leader of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party, joining the huge numbers that have already declared their intention for the same position. He made the disclosure recently during an interview with this press on some of the current activities taking place in the party.
According to Hon. Coulson Turay, his decision to run for such a high profile position, within the party, stems from several calls he received from grassroots members and supporters of the party. He told this press that, at this moment, the party needs a forward thinking leader who will be able to provide a solid platform for capacitating youths and vulnerable women within the rank and file of the party.
This is not the first time that the former Ambassador has declared for high ranking positions within the APC. Before now, he has vied twice for the position of Deputy National Chairman of the party, but had to stand down for Hon Minkailu Mansaray, based on some arrangements within the party.
He was also among the twenty eight presidential aspirants that aspired to succeed former President Koroma in the 2018 general elections. He has also served as the national Assistant Publicity Secretary of the APC, and also a Member of Parliament for former Constituency 098 in the eastern part of Freetown.
Hon. Coulson Turay told this press that, for now, he is a shark and not a small fish that will be easily swallowed by older politicians within the party. He continued that if elected, to such a high profile position, he will reinvent the APC to meet modern and digital transformation.
In addition to that, the former MP and diplomat promised to bring on board the party other prominent politicians like the former leader of the Coalition for Change Party, Chief Sam Sumana, and Mohamed Kamarainba from the Alliance Democratic Party to restructure, rebuild, and reorganize the party for new members and audiences across the country.
In conclusion, Hon. Coulson Turay stated that he would like to replicate the idea of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party to empower more young people in governance structures.
