Parliament is in receipt of the first National Public Procurement Authority (NPPA) assessment report which it hopes to debate shortly.
The objective of the report is to provide a clear picture of all procurement activities embarked upon by 134 government procuring entities two years back.
The report titled: ‘An Annual Public Procurement Assessment Report, 2018’ was tabled yesterday by the leader of government business in parliament, by Hon. Matthew Nuyma.
The debate on the NPPA document is scheduled to take place next Thursday.
During the presentation ceremony, none of the parliamentarians made detailed comment about the report.
However, one of the parliamentarians, Hon. Daniel Koroma of the main opposition, All People’s Congress appreciated the effort of the leader of government business for tabling the report in parliament.
Hon Koroma requested the leader of government business to furnish them with copies of the report for perusal.
Furnishing them with the report, according to Hon Koroma, would enable them contructively participate in next Thursday’s proceedings.
The tabled report touched many issues and reforms in the procurement activities of government agencies.
“The reforms are centred on the introduction of electronic procurement to further the overall improvement in the procurement sphere,” a portion of the report reads in part.
The report also claimed that despite the number of years procurement practice was integrated into the country’s public sector administration, execution of procurement processes by procuring entities remain “dismally low.”
It is hoped that the successful implementation of the procedures and processes contained in the report would rely on support from the legislative and the executive arms of government.
