The Speaker of Parliament, Dr Chernoh Abass Bundu, on Tuesday 28th April 2020 ordered the new Leader of Government Business, Hon. Matthew Sahr Nyuma, to include the 2018 Auditor General’s Report on the order paper for debate.
The Speaker Dr. Bundu made the statement in the Chamber of Parliament after lavishing praises on the new leader of Government Business for notifying Members of Parliament on what is about to be debated.
According to Dr Abass Bundu, this is the first time, since the inception of this Parliament, for the Leader of Government Business to introduce such acceptable rules in the Well of Parliament.
“This is a plus to the new leader of Government Business. This will allow Members of Parliament to fully be aware of what will come next in the order paper and it will give MPs the opportunity to fully prepare before coming into the Chamber of Parliament for debate,” Speaker Bundu said.
He said the Auditor General’s Report has been laid on the table in the Well of Parliament since December last year, and it must be included on the list of items on the order paper for debate this time.
Speaking to the media, after the sitting last Tuesday, the new Leader of Government Business, Hon. Matthew Sahr Nyuma, said the newly introduced phenomenon in Parliament is part of his agenda.
“I am fully prepared to change the narrative in Parliament. As a young man, in early 30s when I entered Parliament in 2012 for the first time, I understudied all the protocols and rules in Parliament and I will follow the due procedures strictly,” he said.
He said the Auditor General’s Report laid in the Well of Parliament sometimes ago will also be factored on the order paper for debate.
Members of the opposition also heaped felicitations and accolades to the new Leader of Government Business, who is perceived to have scored a hat trick.
