LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT

Must read

Dear Sir,

Le1.8 million per month on each inmate

Strange things happen in Sierra Leone where fellow human beings have been treated as lower criminals by their kind. Thus it is that the government of former President Ernest Koroma could spend Le 60,000 a day allegedly to feed a prisoner when a Brigadier can earn Le 70,000 (seventy thousand Leones) per month. It follows that if you were not President you could have also been earning Le 70,000 a month as pension. Put yourself in that position. You would agree with me, sir, that the situation is too bizarre to be true. Bandits burgle you and you are left penniless while they wallow in your wealth. The situation is desperate.

You would wonder, sir, why this should happen while the vast majority of citizens cannot earn Le 60,000 (sixty thousand Leones) a month. The fact is that former President Koroma and his cohorts being inhuman allowed this situation to happen while they lived in their glory. Meanwhile they kept revising the salaries of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) officials and parliamentarians whenever elections drew close. As a result of such heartlessness he was not blessed by pensioners.

Under your new direction, sir, this situation should not continue. I would therefore plead on behalf of pensioners for you to set up an enquiry to find out whether in fact the amount quoted above was being spent on the feeding of a single prisoner or whether it has been a squandered amount by prisons officers and Co.

Yours truly,

Amadu Kamara.
