Student Dragged To Court For Wounding

A twenty-three year old student, who identified himself as Sulaiman Kallon,  on Wednesday 5th May 2021 made his second appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Court No. 1, as he was alleged to have maliciously wounded Umaro  Kuyateh  with intent to do him grevious bodily harm.

The accused was arraigned before Magistrate Kekura on three counts, ranging from wounding with intent, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The charge sheet states that the accused, on Sunday 11th April 2021 at Congo Cross in Freetown, wounded Umaro Kuyateh with intent to do him grevious bodily harm.

The charge sheet further states that the accused, on the same date and place, assaulted the complainant in a manner thereby doing him actual bodily harm.

During proceedings, the prosecutor, Inspector Gbasah Fofanah, sought for a date, arguing that the file was a transfer file and was just handed over to her.

She pleaded with the bench to give her a convenient date so that she can peruse the file and call her witnesses to testify on the next adjourned date.

In the circumstance, Magistrate Kekura granted the accused fifty million Leones bail and one surety in like sum. He said the surety should be a responsible citizen and bail should be approved by the acting deputy Master and Registrar. The matter was adjourned to the 10th April 2021.

In another development, Mabinty Mondeh also made her third appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of the same court. She was alleged to have uttered threatening language against the complainant.

The accused was also arraigned before the court on a count of threatening language, which is contrary to Section 32(1) of the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1968.

The particulars of offence state that the accused, on Thursday 23rd July 2020 at Upper Tengbeh Town in Freetown, threatened to kill Louis Thompson.

Shortly after the matter was mentioned, the prosecutor, Inspector Andrew Comba, also sought for a date, informing that his witnesses were not present in court.

The accused is on bail and the matter comes up on the 10th May 2021.
