By Janet A. Sesay

The sitting Mayor of Freetown Madam Yvonne Aki- Sawyer on Tuesday 7 March 2023 continued her defence as she was alleged of obstructing police officers while executing their duties at the Lungi police post.

Testifying on oath Fatmata Kanyako, Personal Assistant to the Mayor, recalled that on 17 September 2022 the Mayor and Councillor Sheku Alhassan Turay were to travel to the United States for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation summit and it was a trip that she facilitated.

Witness Kanyako furthered that on the day they were to travel, the Mayor called her from the airport in Lungi for her to inform the organisers of the conference that Councillor Sheku Alhassan Turay had been arrested and will no longer make the trip to the conference as he was to perform a role on the sideline of the conference. The witness said she did exactly as she was instructed by the Mayor.

After her testimony State Counsel Yusuf Isaac Sesay did not cross examine the witness. ]
The matter was adjourned to 14 March 2023.
