Sia’s Murder Case Attracts 23 Defense Lawyers

A business tycoon who identified himself as Abdul Kpaka on Tuesday, 28 August 2024 was in court on allegation that he killed his girlfriend, Sia Fatu Kamara who was a former Assistant to the Mayor of Freetown, Her Worship Mayor Yvonne Aki Sawyer.

Kpaka in his defense was represented in court by twenty three (23) lawyers. He is standing trial before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2 on a count charge of murder contrary to Section 1 of the Offences against the Person’s Act of 1861.

The charge sheet states that Kpaka, on Tuesday, 13th August, 2024 at Peninsula Road in Freetown, murdered Sia Fatu Kamara. After the charges were read and explained to him by the Deputy Assistant Registrar, Hindolo Katta, no plea was taken.

The Lead Prosecutor, Chief Superintendent of Police, Juan Bull sought for a short adjournment saying that the prosecution team has just received the case file and they have not perused it yet.

Lead Defense Counsel, Emmanuel Teddy Koroma in his maiden statement in court sent condolence to the bereaved family, adding that the matter should move on speedily, appealing that even though the accused is in incarceration, he should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Magistrate Bangura therefore adjourned the matter to Wednesday 4 September, 2024 for hearing.
