The Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone on Thursday 24th January, 2019 expressed appreciation to the government of the People’s Republic of China for the grant of furniture, PA system and carpet as gift to the Sierra Leone Parliament in accordance with section 118 (7) of the 1991 Constitution Act No. 6
According to Hon. Mathew Nyuma, the batch of materials includes 390 chairs for the chamber and the galleries, 500 arm chairs for committee room one and conference rooms, 10 office chairs, 6 executive chairs for the leadership, 52 chairs for conference room and 400 chairs for the state hall.
The Acting leader of Government Business, Hon M.S. Nyuma, added that 150 microphones, speakers and other audio equipment for the chamber, committee room one, state hall and the conference room of the new administrative building have also been provided.
The grant, according to the legislator, also includes 2500 meter carpet for the leadership offices, members’ lounge and the chamber with 50 multipurpose tents, two air conditioners, Laser Jet printers and 2 B&W photocopiers.
The MP added that the grant was in accordance with the final letter exchange on 12th June 2018 between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Sierra Leone.
This prompted the Chinese to use Chinese grant assistance to provide the Sierra Leone Parliament the above stated items.
He called on MPs to appreciate the Ambassador, People’s Republic of China, Wu Peng, and staff of the Embassy for such a gesture to Parliament.
