nightwatch Newspaper is investigating a concern raised by 48 year old Sierra Leonean Allie Smith, who lived in the United Kingdom from 1991-2022.
Smith is currently pleading for the intervention of the government of Sierra Leone and human rights bodies for a swift intervention.
According to Smith, he was maliciously treated and abused by the British Police in his latter stay in the United Kingdom. He reported to this medium that he was heavily manhandled and locked up by the British Police for two days and later released.
After his release, Smith reportedly lost all his properties, including other valuable gadgets that were stolen by the British police. He had to run to Sierra Leone for fear of threats against his life, as he was incessantly harassed, threatened and discriminated against by the British Police.
However, upon arriving in Sierra Leone, his country of birth, ‘I thought that could have remedied my heartrending situation. I decided to meet key government stakeholders, whose names I will withhold for ethical reasons.
‘The purpose of meeting these government authorities was to explain the ill-treatments which I went through in the UK and to register my company. Unfortunately, this was not achieved. Instead, I was asked to pay Le5 million old leones to register my company, a request that I declined.’
According to Smith, he later went to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to register his concerns and explain about the inhumane treatment meted against him in the UK, but little or no attention was given him.
‘I felt frustrated and started thinking that maybe the authorities might have gotten in touch with the British Government about my issue or decided to conspire against me,’ Smith said.
Smith is currently frustrated with the failure of state authorities to listen to his complaints, which has prompted him to use nightwatch Newspaper to inform the Government of Sierra Leone and other bodies for immediate intervention.
nightwatch is currently in possession of some relevant documents from Allie Smith to support his claims. This medium has decided to withhold said documents for ethical reasons. We are expecting a prompt response from the government and the British Embassy in Sierra Leone.
Authorities concerned are therefore asked to contact Allie Smith on +23274061336, or contact nightwatch at 29 Rawdon Street, Freetown.
