Accused Docked For Assault

By Musa Paul Feika

Collins Dixon of Murray Town has made his first appearance before Magistrate Abdul Sheriff at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No.1 for allegedly assaulting Samuel Lewis of the same town in a manner thereby causing him grievous bodily harm.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty of the offence. It was against this background that the defense counsel, Claudius Campbell, representing the accused, applied for bail on behalf of the accused, pursuant to Section 79 of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965.

He furthered his application, noting that his client was not a flight risk and that he exhibited it in the police station where he was earlier granted bail and charged to court.

In response, Magistrate Abdul Sheriff granted the accused ten million Leones (Le 10,000,000) bail with one surety in like sum. The bail conditions furthered that the surety must be resident within the jurisdiction and bail must be approved by the Master and Registrar.

The police charge sheet indicates that the accused, on Monday July this year at Murray Town in Freetown, assaulted Samuel Lewis in a manner thereby causing him grievous bodily harm.  The matter comes up 20th August, 2020.
