Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 on Wednesday remanded Sheik Ahmed Kolokoh at the Male Correctional Centre for allegedly committing human trafficking.
The accused is before the court on three count charges of human trafficking, transporting and attempting to commit human trafficking, which are all contrary to section 18 of the Anti-Human Trafficking Act No 7 of 2005.
According to the police file sheet, on diverse dates between 1st April 2019 and 13th May 2019 in Freetown, the accused conspired together with unknown persons to commit the offence of human trafficking, by trafficking thirty eight (38) persons, namely Kabba Bangura, Mohamed Bangura and thirty six others from Freetown to Conakry by means of deception for the purposes of exploitation.
Defense Counsel S.M. Fomba applied for bail on behalf of his client, pursuant to section 79 (2) of the Criminal Procedure Act No.32 of 1965.
Bail was refused. But Magistrate Bonnie stated that, having heard the application for bail from the defense counsel, she could only consider bail on the next adjourned date. The accused was remanded and the matter was adjourned to the 10th June, 2019.
