Accused Incarcerated For Burglary & Larceny

One Tejan Will is standing trial at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1, which is presided over by Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma, for the offence of burglary and larceny, which are offences contrary to law.

The police charge sheet opines that Tejan Will, on Sunday 7th June 2020 at Gbaray Junction Kissy in Freetown, broke and entered into the dwelling house of the complainant, Princess Brima Forray, and stole therein valuable properties worth millions of leones.

The police prosecution witness, Princess Brima Forray, a worker at International Rescue Committee (IRC), in his testimony, said that he recognized the accused and he could recall Sunday 7th June 2020.

According to him, he was at home at around 2am when he heard people shouting ‘tif, tif’ within his vicinity at Kissy in Freetown.  The witness said he immediately woke up and saw his window opened.  The witness said he searched for his mobile phones, which include one LG, valued at two million five hundred thousand leones (Le 2, 500,000), one IG Tell, valued at two hundred thousand leones (Le200,000), and one modem.

“I could not see my cell phones,” Prince Brima Forray told the court.

The witness added that one of his friends, Gbessay, told him that he saw the accused, Tejan Will. Gbessay led him to the accused`s residence at Gbaray Junction Kissy community in Freetown.  But he said the accused was not there.

The witness furthered that the accused was later arrested within the same environs. On their way to the Kissy Police Station, the accused told them that he was one of the thieves but vowed and willing to identify the other thieves. The witness added that they took the accused to the Kissy Police Station and made statement in respect of the matter.

The defense counsel, Randy S. Bangura, representing the accused, applied for bail on behalf of his client. He submitted that, based on the evidence before the court, his client had no case to answer.

The prosecution objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the offences. The accused was denied bail and remanded. The matter was adjourned to 8th July 2020.
