Accused Remanded For House Breaking

John Alieu Sannoh was yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma of the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1, for allegedly breaking into the dwelling house of the complainant, Patrick Loco Conteh, and carted way certain viable properties worth millions of Leones.

The police prosecution witness, Samuel Conteh, in his evidence before the court, said he recognized the accused in respect of the matter and could recall Thursday 29th September, 2020.

According to him, on that fateful day, he was sleeping, at around 1:00am and 2:00am, when he heard his sister, whose name was not mentioned, screaming ‘tif tif’. This, he said, immediately woke up him and searched for his two mobile phones and a Bluetooth, which were on top of a table in the palour. But he said they were nowhere to be found.

Mr. Conteh detailed the court that he rushed outside, but did not see anybody, adding that he later noticed that the accused had fled the compound through the window where he fortunately left his two trousers.

The witness said he took them and handed same over to his father.

The witness said, on the following morning, himself and his father went in search of the owner of the said trousers within the vicinity, stating that they were reliably informed that the accused was the owner of the trousers. He informed the court that the accused was apprehended and taken to the Approved School Police Post in Freetown and made a statement in respect of the matter.

According to the police file sheet, John Alieu Sannoh, on Thursday 29th July, 2020, at No. 2 Pato Drive Jalloh Terrace, in Freetown, broke and entered into the dwelling house of the complainant and stole therein certain viable properties worth millions of Leones, which are properties belonging to the complainant.

During the cross examination, the accused asked the witness whether he saw his name written on the said trousers allegedly found in his compound. In reply, the witness answered in the negative.

The accused further asked the witness whether there was anything on the trousers to show the court that he was the owner of the trousers. The witness said no.

The accused was refused bail and remanded at the Male Correctional Centre, Pademba Road in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to 29th October, 2020.
