Two leading ISPs (Internet Service Providers) in Sierra Leone have been asked to pay Sierra Leone Cable Limited (SALCAB) Le11 Billion or have their services terminated.
The amount owed is for services including International Private Lease Circuit (IPLC), IP Transit (Internet Protocol Services) and co-location in power supply.
These companies have persistently failed to abide by payment plan arrangements, which they had made with SALCAB.
Even though these companies receive revenue from their clients they have still failed to pay for services provided for them by SALCAB.
A source told the Nightwatch Newspaper that AFCOM owes SALCAB Le 7.7 billion and Onlime owes SALCAB Le 3.3 billion.
Other chronic debtors include Atlas Communications (Le 432 million), Lee (Le2.1 billion) Diakem (Le 500 million) and Lee Wireless (Le 1.1 billion).
A government spokesman has noted that SALCAB is 100% owned by the Government of Sierra Leone.
“We will encourage all those who owe SALCAB money to find a way to settle their indebtedness… We support SALCAB to do everything possible to recover the money owed them by these private business entities, who continue to collect revenue and even pay salaries to their workers”, according to government Spokesman.
