Must read

Sierra Leone’s leading GSM company has expressed full and resounding commitment to support the First Lady’s ‘Hands Off Our Girls’ campaign.
The Chief Executive Officer Shadi Ger Jawi of Africell assured the First Lady and her visiting colleague First Ladies that Africell will frown at any acts of sexual and gender based violence against women. He registered the Company’s full commitment to use all resources available in supporting the campaign, through disseminating messages across the country, especially in local communities.
This, he noted, is meant to promote the awareness around the issues relating to Sexual and Gender Based Violence and Early Child Marriage.
The commitment was made by the Chief Executive Officer of Africell while delivering a speech at the official launch of the strategic plan for the ‘Hands Off Our Girls’ Campaign 2019-2022 at the Bintumani Conference Centre, Aberdeen Freetown, over the weekend.
He commended the First Lady for the laudable initiative and noted that “We cannot be firmer than ever before in our actions and voices towards ending all forms of violence against women.”
The world, he stated, is moving towards zeroing in on creating a better atmosphere for women, who form the greater part of the Sierra Leonean population.
The Africell CEO said it is sad and extremely shocking to learn that older men are still committing extreme acts of violence against women and girls. He said Sierra Leoneans must all fight to discourage the menace if we want a better society.
He concluded by reiterating the commitment of Africell, as a critical partner, to the ‘Hands off our Girls’ Campaign.
Africell has been key in promoting the strategic launch of the ‘Hands Off Our Girls’ Campaign by supporting a number of media activities showcasing the First Lady in her initial preparations for the strategic launch.
