Sierra Leone’s leading telecoms company, Africell Sierra Leone has waived service fees for bulk payments to assist government, private institutions and non-governmental organisations conduct money transfers to people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Sierra Leone.
This means that the service fees for funds transferred by government and other institutions via Afrimoney platform is free cost till 28th June, this year.
Having launched a worthwhile COVID-19 service, Africell entreats money transfer by governments, private institutions NGO’s and donor partners to the beneficiaries.
Similarly, the telecoms company also urges institutions to pay salary to their staff through mobile money as well as daily subsistence allowance or per diem to health workers or any other field staff supporting response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the scheme, public and private sector institutions in Sierra Leone can transfer bulk payments seamlessly to people in affected communities.
COVID-19 has directly negatively impacted Sierra Leone’s economy and the people’s livelihoods since its outbreak in March this year.
Government has been calling on well-meaning Sierra Leoneans and business entities to join the campaign to halt the spread of the virus.
In March this year, Africell donated protective equipment to contain the spread of the virus.
Africell SL, a business entity that has been in Sierra Leone for years, is one of those that responded to the government’s call.
In the immediate days that preceded the 72-hour country-wide lockdown in April, this year, Africell SL donated 600 mobile phones running into millions of Leones to neutralise the COVID-19 threat.

Afrimoney waives service fees for all Bulk Payments to assist the Government, private institutions and NGOs in money transfer to people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Sierra Leone.
In response to the COVID19 pandemic, Afrimoney is excited to announce that the service fees for all funds transferred by the Government, private institutions, NGOs and donor partners via Afrimoney platform, are now zero-rated until 28th of June 2020.
Institutions in Sierra Leone can transfer bulk payments seamlessly to people in affected communities or to the COVID-19 response workforce.
