Sierra Leone’s victorious gymnastics team has returned home today from the 2nd Baku Gym For All Challenge in Azerbaijan.
The team, led by Captain, Michael Fornah, secured gold medals and won the tournament “Best Performance” award.
Fornah said it has been an absolute “dream come true” to walk away with the gold medal, especially with this being their first time to participate in the Baku Gym For All Tournament.
He underscored that they won bronze in the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey, in 2022.
‘After winning the bronze medal in Turkey, our President motivated us and keep the team together, incorporate more gymnasts into the team. We keep on training, worked harder and we’ve received the rewards,’ he said.
Anna Williams, the President of the Sierra Leone Gymnastics Federation, lauded the amazing performance of the team and promised to bring more laurels back home.
‘They performed amazingly beyond my imagination and we’re so proud of them.’
‘We want to thank the Government of Sierra Leone for making it possible for us to participate in this tournament. I want to extend gratitude to the astute leadership of the NSA boss, Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, for believing in us and providing the fund and also our able Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Taema, for her support. To the people of Sierra Leone, the victory is for you and we will continue to make you proud,’ she affirmed.
