A.M.D.H. – SL, National Workshop Complex, Cline Town, on Tuesday 5th June, 2018 commissioned an Albania Sausage Factory.
Sierra Leone Consul in Albania, Arton Stroka, said Sausage Salami Factory is huge project that will strengthen bilateral relationship between Albania and Sierra Leone, pointing out that the product is of European standard.
Mr. Stroka maintained that the factory will start purchasing livestock from local farmers across the country, which, he said, will build the link between farmers and the factory.
He also added that the factory will create job opportunities for Sierra Leoneans as twenty-five Sierra Leoneans are currently working with the factory.
Manso Kargbo, Food Safety Department, Ministry of Health and Sanitation, among other things, said the mandate of his department is to ensure that food imported or produced in the country is safe.
He noted that newly Food and Food Safety Act 2017 is to ensure that Food Safety is treated with the seriousness it deserves.
Standard Bureau, Head of Food Laboratory and Quality Manager, Isatu Binta Kamara, said her office set standards for products produced with state of the art laboratory equipment and expressed appreciation for having a food processing factory in Sierra Leone.
He advised management of the factory to always have a proper label with expiring and production dates and both numbers and ensure to store the product under the recommended temperature with a product sample to the Bureau for analysis on a regular basis.
Senior Veterinary Officer Livestock Division, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, Dr. Amara Leno, said the advert of the Sausage factory will definitely limit the importation of sausage which, he said, will aid quality food for all in Sierra Leone.
Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, A.J. Sesay Jones, lauded the new factory, noting that his Ministry will develop policies and programmes that will attract old and new investment that will stabilize the economy, create job opportunity and reduce poverty.
The Deputy Minister vowed to popularize the made-in-Sierra Leone concept to enhance productivity and competitiveness of local industry to improve. The Minister inaugurated and cut the tape of the newly constructed factory.
