APC Damns COI Report -Heads To Court

By Tony Yayo

The National Secretary General of the All People’s Congress (APC) Party, Ambassador Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh, has disclosed to this press that they are in the process of filing a case in the Appeals Court against the findings and recommendations in the just released Commissions of Inquiry report.

The report, which was handed over to President Julius Maada Bio last week by Justice Biobele Georgewill, alleges that officials of the past APC government misappropriated tens of billions of Leones that was meant for national developmental projects. It also recommended that all those whose names are on the report to pay back the stipulated sum within thirty days or the government will use all legal means to retrieve the money.

However, the APC Secretary General, Ambassador Osman Foday Yansaneh, has said that they will be contesting the legality of the report and the COI in a competent court of law.

According to the APC scribe before the commencement of the COI, the main opposition party and some other civil society groups, like the Sierra Leone Bar Association, had filed an appeal with the Supreme Court challenging the establishment and jurisdiction of the COI. He further disclosed that the APC has filed several other cases before the Supreme Court, informing that up till now the Judiciary is yet to allocate a date for those hearings.

Ambassador O.F. Yansaneh continued that they, as a party, will not take the report seriously until the Judiciary provides them with a level playing field for their case to be heard; otherwise they will file another case at the Appeal Court. He called on all international organizations operating in the country to join them in asking for justice, alleging that most of what is in the report is biased and unfounded.
