Osman Timbo has in a formal letter to the leadership of the All Peoples Congress (APC) Party, resigned his position as Deputy National Secretary General effective, yesterday, Wednesday, 12th March 2025.
Addressing a press conference soon afterwards at his office at Jones Street in Freetown, he said he reached his decision after deep reflection and sense of duty, especially in this period of Ramadan and Lent.
He said he holds a strong commitment to the shared dream of making Sierra Leone a better country and expressed gratitude to the APC party and the Delegates at the February 2023 National Delegates Conference for overwhelmingly voting him to the office.
“Your faith in me has been a great inspiration, and I feel truly honoured to have had the opportunity to work for the good of our party and our nation” he said to the 2023 Delegates.
Timbo described his short-lived tenure as Deputy National Secretary-General as “one of learning and of service and show of dedication to the advancement of the APC and the nation of Sierra Leone.”
He thanked the leadership of the APC, especially his former boss, the National Secretary-General, Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya, the National Chairman, the Deputy National Chairman and the entire executives at all levels of the party for the trust they placed in him and for creating the space for him to contribute meaningfully to the party.
He extended special thanks to Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara for leading the party through the 2023 elections, whose votes he said were stolen from the people of this nation, to which he remarked: “Never again will we allow such thievery.”
Timbo stated that his decision to step aside at this moment has not been an easy one, especially considering the pivotal role he has been playing, but that it is a necessary decision for him to take, pointing out that he has always lived by the principle of fairness. He however noted that with the upcoming activities within the party, he believes that stepping down from this position will help maintain the integrity of the secretariat and ensure a fair and level playing field for all.
He affirmed that he is not leaving politics, nor is he leaving the APC party, to which he said he remains fully committed and will continue to do his best to support and strengthen it.
He said his resignation marks the beginning of “a new chapter” in his political journey on which he said he will as of now focus on as his next step and that he will engage stakeholders and party members on his next step and he will soon inform the public on whatever step he decides to take.
Hon. Timbo urged every APC member to keep and maintain the peace in the face of the challenges ahead, and to remain united in the common goal of building a better and more inclusive Sierra Leone.
He urged every Sierra Leonean to DREAM big, adding that our nation’s future is built on the hopes and aspirations of its people, especially the young.
“We should believe in the strength of our unity, the resilience of our spirit, and the power of change that lies within each of us, and to achieve greatness by working together, breaking barriers and stereotypes, and pushing forward despite challenges,” he asserted, assuring that Sierra Leone’s best days are ahead; and that through determination, courage and collective efforts, “we will build a nation that prospers for all”.
