He killed the hen that could have laid the golden egg.He is now in the process of resurrecting that hen without Jesus Power. He skirted 19 candidates and opted for an unknow bureaucrat who was eventually shunned by the electorate. Meanwhile the confident party membership were oblivious or dismissive of the fact that 2018 was not their superstitious year of successes and the octopus that predicted their 2012 victory was loudly silent. Few months before the March elections all things were bright and beautiful for the APC with winning prospects as broght as their sun symbol.
John Locke did say ‘’The great question which in all ages has disturbed mankind ,and brought on them the greatest part of those mischiefs which have ruined cities ,depopulated the peace of the world ,has been not whether there be power in the wordl ,nor whence it came but who should have it.’’ Indeed it is the choice of its flag bearer and its constitution that have proved to be its undoing.
There are good and bad articles in it.One of the bad articles is that of selection and elections which they seem to be now realizing with hindsight .The provision of Chairman and Leader as distinct from flag bearer is contentious. It gives the word the LEADERSHIP a new meaning. How else can we interprete a leader under the control of the supreme leader of the state in case of a party’s victory ? It is a pity that this meaningful structure has been copied by other parties.
Sam Sumana and Dr.Ernest Koroma seem to be chimeric characters in their love/hate relationship. That Sam Sumana should aspire for leadership of the APC after all that he has suffered passess belief .This is in spite of the fact that he had vowed before his court action against his eternal party that he would die APC and this is what he is keeping to with eight seats in Kono only he may be under the illusion that he can carry the whole country. Little does he realize that his defection was partly responsible for the defeat of APC at the polls. Moreover there are more suitable candidates who have not betrayed the party. After all his choice as running mate was not by the electorate as a whole but by Dr. Ernest Koroma which does not translate into national popularity.
Ex-President Koroma has proven that he has a knack for wrong choices climaxed in his choice of Dr. Samura Kamara who he is now attempting to during in favour of his reconciled choice. He has just succedded in tantalizing the man after he has gained some more support after the elections. The result is to bring more dissension within the party. Meanwhile the likes of John Sesay, Marrah, J F Kamara and Petito will stand aside bemused as the Koroma drama plays out.
It is a fact of life that the sacking of Sam Sumana and choice of Samura Kamara are the two main factors responsible for the loss of power by the APC. With his present involvement there is not the ghost of a chance that the APC will regain power in 2023 .The eight seats of the Coalition for Change C4C are not likely to be retained.
