APC Questions CJ’s Neutrality

Must read

The neutrality of the New Direction Government appointed Chief Justice, Honourable Babatunde Edwards, has been questioned by the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party. This questioning was contained in a press release the party issued out on Tuesday after the launching of the Commissions of Inquiry (COI) by President Julius Maada Bio.
The release noted that the APC is appalled by the statement of the newly appointed CJ, which he delivered during the launch of the COI in Freetown.
According to the APC, the Chief Justice had seemingly taken a partisan position, which is largely consistent with the one already taken by President Bio and his government.
The Honorable Chief Justice, a legal luminary of high standing, was appointed recently by the new Government after his predecessor, Hon Abdulai Charm, had controversially resigned his position.
The opposition APC supporters have noted that the new CJ has displayed exuberance, at the launch of the COI, while trying to defend the legality of the Constitutional Instruments establishing the three Commissions of Inquiry.
They also noted that the outburst of the Chief Justice was not compatible with his mandate as a custodian of the rule of law and Chairman of the Supreme Court.
