APC to Return to Parliament

All People Congress (APC)

Following recent engagements between the All People’s Congress (APC) leadership at the Speaker’s Conference Room on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, there are strong indications that the main opposition party may soon return to Parliament.

The meeting, convened by the Speaker of Parliament, is widely seen as a clear signal that APC Members of Parliament, along with their Councilors, are prepared to resume participation in parliamentary and local council activities.

Held at the Speaker’s Conference Room, the engagement brought together key opposition figures, including the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, and his Deputy Leader II, Hon. Aaron Aruna Koroma. Also present was Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, who engaged both leaders in what sources described as a productive discussion.

During the meeting, Hon. Thomas reportedly advised the opposition leadership against using parliamentary sittings as a platform to pressure the President, noting that there are several alternative channels through which such concerns can be addressed constructively.

According to sources familiar with the discussions, ongoing dialogue between the opposition and the incumbent government is progressing positively and is expected to create the necessary conditions for APC lawmakers and Councilors to return to their official duties.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, an APC member expressed the party’s readiness to re-engage:

“As an opposition, we are willing to return to Parliament and work with the incumbent party to move the country forward in the right trajectory. We are not averse to dialogue. That is the reason we were elected by the people of this nation.”

Meanwhile, Members of Parliament from the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) have welcomed the prospect of the opposition’s return.

They emphasized that a functioning democracy requires active participation from both sides of the political divide. “We will be happy to see the opposition MPs back in Parliament. In any democratic state, there must be an opposition. We are ready and willing to work with them to move the country forward,” an SLPP lawmaker stated.

They further stressed that the presence of opposition lawmakers is essential for a vibrant and effective Parliament, ensuring that legislative processes operate fully within the ambit of the law.

The anticipated return of APC Members of Parliament and the party’s councilors is also viewed by many as a reflection of President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to inclusive governance. Observers note that the President appears to be utilizing the executive authority vested in his office to engage both the ruling party and the opposition in constructive dialogue aimed at national development.

Such efforts, analysts say, demonstrate a willingness on the part of the President to work collaboratively with the opposition for the overall progress of Sierra Leone.

With momentum building around dialogue and cooperation, political observers believe the return of APC lawmakers could mark a significant step toward strengthening democratic governance and national cohesion in the country.
