The People of Bonthe District have been assured of the requisite development needed by the District by President Bio while officially closing this year’s Agro-Tourisim and Cultural Festival on 24th December, 2018 jointly organized by the Ministries of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and Agriculture and Food Security.
He noted that with tourism and agriculture Bonthe District had the potential to be the breadbasket of the country.President Bio also used the occasion to thank the people of the district for overwhelmingly voting for him during the March 2018 elections.
Bonthe, the President disclosed, has been a deprived district in the country due to what he referred to as divisive politics.
His administration, he noted, was ready to correct that injustice by embarking on development projects in the district.
‘’This once thriving district became a deprived and neglected city.As President I will ensure that development is shared to every part of this country and Bonthe will no longer be an-exception.We will revive this district and restore its lost glory’’President Bio noted.
The President disclosed that, very soon, his government will begin the reconstruction of the sea face of the island that will attract a lot of tourists to the district and will also construct 5 kilometer roads inside the municipality as a start. He further disclosed that plans are underway to resume the Tomabuom Agricultural Center, which according to him will feed the entire nation with reserve to export.
The Mayor of the Bonthe Municipality Leyemie Joe Sandi thanked the President and noted that they were happy to receive their son for the first time as President. He expressed their happiness at the development programs already in the pipeline for the municipality.
The President was speaking at the closing of the Agro-Tourism and Cultural Festival organized at the District to show case its natural agricultural endowment and touristic potential. It was witnessed by a host of farmers across the region together with government officials, traditional leaders and the donor community and was climaxed with traditional dancing and festivities.
