In a long-awaited address to the nation, President Bio has lifted the inter-district lock-down and relaxed the night curfew from 9pm to 11pm.
He acknowledges the fact that the inter-district lock down remains a major suppression that has presented immense challenges for many Sierra Leoneans.
He disclosed to the nation that he has instructed NACOVERC to institute Infection and Prevention Control measures in place of people travelling from one place to another.
He also reiterated his government stance to resume flights to the country in line with other countries in the sub region.
Many Sierra Leoneans have stayed out of their places of worship for over three months now since the pronouncement of the ban on religious services in the country.
It was their expectations that the President would have announced a relaxation on the ban especially when discussions were already rife and the Inter-Religious Council of Sierra Leone on the issue.
The President also disclosed, in his address, that the IRCSL had presented a proposal to government on the management of religious gatherings for a lift of the ban.
The President’s relaxation of almost all measures leaving the ban on religious gatherings has left many Sierra Leoneans disappointed.
The argument is that government has not given priority to the commencement of worship in religious houses.
The population of Sierra Leone is largely made up of Muslims and Christians and the former makes for over 70% of the country’s population.
Many have argued that government has done nothing about the gathering of people in large markets like Dovecot ,Waterloo and many others across the country which they say is unsafe.
But, they say, the ban on religious houses which are more responsible in putting in place safety measures during their worship sessions continues.
